Does marital felicity exist?

You know how I feel about marriage. It's the most difficult thing together with raising children and sometimes (most of the times) losing weight, but that's another story. And the thing is, instincts and nature come to help with raising children, whereas in marriage (other) instincts and nature can distract you from staying the course.

What's the secret to "and they lived happily ever after"? I wander ... It can be the essence of it all - the commitment - the choice to remain by his/her side.

Anyways, maybe you already made your choice (once, twice or even more) or maybe not...Do you think it's really solely your choice that counts or is it luck? Whatever luck means: coincidences, happy circumstances, serendipity...

""Happiness in marriage is entirely a matter of chance. If the dispositions of the parties are ever so well known to each other or ever so similar beforehand, it does not advance their felicity in the least. They always continue to grow sufficiently unlike afterwards to have their share of vexation; and it is better to know as little as possible of the defects of the person with whom you are to pass your life." "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen

So, is marital felicity achievable in real life or is it only in fairy tales? I'd love to know what you think. Gimme hope :)
